Staff were great and clam chowder was pretty dang good too. They state that they make it fresh everyday.clean establishment.the reason I gave it three stars was because the halibut fish and chips were nasty it was very fishy the the point of gagging... Not good when you come to the beach you want fresh seafood

Save your money. Go anywhere else. Or, go here and get over cooked food. Your choice.

I would not recommend coming on a Oregon Duck Football game day because they are the only restaurant in town that shows it and it is hard to find a seat. The food was typical bar food but not bad and the chowder was very good. The service was very bad and slow. We had to request drink refills on many occasions and the server was very inexperienced and young and acted annoyed to have to help us.

we decided to try this for dinner...we each began with a bud....i had the caesar salad with bay shrimp, and my partner had the shrimp scampi and steamer clams...the food was great...staff nice...dynamite view of lake lytle...

The food was super good, mixed drink was great. Staff was friendly but did seem distracted and busy for their only being a few other people eating. Maybe we lucked out or other reviewers are overly harsh???

THEY WERE SWAMPED. But that is ZERO excuse to have staff that have appalling attitudes and even the MANAGER was a snatch. We walked in and stood by the register for about fifteen minutes. Three staff members, including the manager walked by us several times and no one said "hey be right there", no greeting, NOTHING. I was totally ok with it being busy and completely understood waiting, but how can you just walk past customers and not say a word. Finally a waitress came to ring something up and I asked if we seat ourselves or how it worked with it being so busy, she looked up and very rudly told us "if you can find a spot" . (I've been here before, I LITERALLY traveled from Portland JUST for the clam chowder.) I can tell by the ratings that this place is hit or miss, either ONE star or FIVE.

Go here if you want to wait for the bartender every time you want a drink (because she's outside smoking). Only stayed for a few rounds Bartender was not friendly, was always outside smoking, was complaining about coworkers in front of customers (like myself and my boyfriend) while outside smoking, reused cups for mixed drinks (which I can get over... but apparently you're not supposed to do, so it makes me wonder what other questionable corners are cut), and topped it off with not washing her hands when coming in from aforementioned smoke break before making more drinks and handling straws that people's mouths go on. I'm all about dive bars, and usually blend well with the locals when I'm at the coast for a few days, but not this place...

BEST clam chowder!!! U just have to go. Cold beer:) Wait staff friendly and prompt. So much hype about other places and finally we found the best chowder. Yaay!!!

Waited more than an hour for 3 burgers, and they came out burnt. The server was nice, but scatter-brained. He charged me $13 extra for something we didn't order, and had to get the manager to void it. The manager then yelled at the server in front of me. After waiting 15 minutes for them to figure out how to void it, I gave up and left. In the end I got charged $60 for mediocre food and horrible service, and was made to feel like I was the bad guy for expecting anything else.

Clam chowder was one of the best we've had. Both my husband and I had the halibut fish and chips. 3 good size pieces with really good fries. The coleslaw was excellent too.

We visited on a busier night, but not all of the tables were even filled. (aka it was busy but not that busy.) There were SEVERAL waitresses on staff. We were entirely ignored for over 20 minutes before we just got up and left. (We have visited before and the food was just so-so, but we were hungry and in the area tonight. Never going back.)

Lovely place, lovely people. Also, definitely the place to be in Tillamook County on Friday & Saturday nights! Karaoke, and drinks that actually taste how they are supposed to! Won't go anywhere else when I'm in town! :)

Excellent clam chowder, and the after 9 PM 5 jumbo fried shrimp and fries for $8.50 was a good deal but the restaurant side closes at 10 so you only have an hour to order it. Our waitress was great and let us have it almost a half hour early which really helped our family because most meals ran like $11+ unless you wanted to do the $10 burger thing. At 10 pm Karaoke started to crank up, which was fun to watch. Their homemade tarter and cocktail sauces were extremely good.

Great place to eat, they make the best soups, especially clam chowder. Really nice people work there too and karaoke was great and they seem to have any song you want.

If you like pink burgers and long waits, this is the place for you! Walked in and the girl said, "Have a seat, I'll get you when I have a chance." We finally had our order taken (including just getting drinks) about 25 minutes in. Food came about another 25 minutes after. I had asked for my burger well done - it was completely pink. They made me a new one, which took about another 20 minutes. They ended up giving my husband a free piece of pie and taking %10 off the bill, but overall - not worth it!

Modest restaurant and bar with a fantastic view of the lake! We entered on a Friday night and got greeted and seated right away. Friendly, no nonsense and attentive service. The food was amazing. We had the mozzarella sticks, Fettuccini Alfredo and the Kevin burger. Best Alfredo and burger we've had in a long time, even being from Portland. Drinks were cheap and strong. Locals were friendly and welcoming. We'll definitely be back!

I wish zero stars was an option. I had one of the worst dining experiences of my entire life here last Tuesday. I took my wife here on our honeymoon to have a nice dinner and a few drinks. We ordered two whiskey gingers, clam chowder and some shrimp. The drinks came first and after the first sip we realized there was no whiskey in the drinks and when the waitress returned we stated our problem and politely asked for beers instead. She took them back and then turned to her manager, who in the meantime was playing video poker, and they very loudly argued about how we were wrong and how they know how much alcohol they put in the drinks. It made us feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome that we got up to leave, I mean who would want to dine in that environment? We came there to have a good time and instead we were insulted. If that wasn't bad enough. the manager chased us into the parking lot screaming at us and she grabbed my arm, quite aggressively. She then yelled that she was calling the police for dining and ditching, when we hadn't been served any food and sent back the ginger ales after one sip. I ended up going back in after her to pay for two ginger ales and tipped the waitress. I literally almost called the cops myself because she assaulted me, but i just wanted to get back to my honeymoon. The experience will probably keep us away from Rockaway beach for good. Beware of that crazy blonde manager if you end up deciding to go. Make sure you don't send anything back because she can't handle criticism and might attack you in the parking lot.

Stopped in here because everything else in the area was closed. We had the halibut and chips and Angus burger. Halibut and chips was fresh tasting but either very overcooked or they use frozen fish(our server insisted the fish was fresh). Burger was ok, tasted more like a frozen pattie rather than "angus". Our server Lee was excellent, friendly and welcoming. But considering the area and nothing else being open I would recomend it for a low key safe meal.

Went there for dessert and had some delicious pies (Oregon strawberry, cookies & cream, and cheesecake). The waitstaff (owner?) was very nice even though we arrived 20 min before closing. My kids got a nice sheriff badge sticker from the local cop who was in the restaurant. Locals have been genuinely nice and I appreciate that.

If you want food and drink....you will not get it here. 2 waitresses, only me and the wife and 2 other tables. Gave us a menu and were ignored for 20 minutes....no food, no water, no drinks. We left disgusted. Spoke to our neighbors all relayed similar experiences. Our friend Mark took a group of 8 from work...and got equally ignored, they left. Months have passed and every time I drive by the place around noon there are only 1-2 cars in the lot.....word has not gotten around to everyone I guess.

Was told by a local (who worked here) that they had the best clam chowder in town. It tasted like cream of mushroom soup with clams. We had ordered the chowder to go, and ate it at home.....ended up throwing it away =(

OUTSTANDING Chowder. The BEST I have ever had, and I order a lot of chowder, and attend chowder cook-offs frequently. The service and food were both excellent. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. We sat at a lake view window and had an excellent experience. I highly recommend this establishment.

Went there to watch a Ducks game and the service from the bald guy in the bar was terrible. Guess I should have read the review from Audrea H. "Maybe if we felt like going somewhere to be ignored. Walked in and sat down and waited almost 15 minutes before anyone even came over and acknowledged us" I couldn't have said it better myself, so I won't try. They were friendly to the locals, and gave them good service. The guy even got snotty with my father-in-law, because we were getting no service from the guy, he asked the lady if he could get a refill on his drink and they bald guy said "don't order from her." Just, wow.

Went in for a late lunch, wish we hadn't. One waitress running all, the bar the lower tables and the family seating.Waited for ever to get menus and order. The kitchen help brough our food with no flatware to eat with no spoon for soup. The point is the food was awful. I order a Rubin, I have never seen it made with caned corn beef. The fish and chip my husband and daughter had had no taste. Hade to get her food at DQ down the way so she didn't go hungery.

Worst restaurant in Rockaway. Don't waste your time or money. Ordered an 8inch pizza. It was cold, tasteless and took 30 min longer than they said. For 13.00 you can get a much larger pizza that actually tastes like pizza at Upper Crust. Upper Crust charges 7.99 for an individual with a drink. The waitress was rude and the cook looked like he was recently released from the county jail. My mother ate 1 piece and consequently had food poisoning by 3:30 am. Think twice before eating here!

We had seen good reviews so we decided to stop in for lunch and a drink. The waitress was friendly and took our order quickly (there was only 1 other family in there) I ordered the 1/2 a tuna salad sandwich and a Bloody Mary and my fiancé got a cheeseburger and beer. I wanted the chowder everyone raved about....but, they were out; at 1:00 in the afternoon on a rainy Sunday. Really?? My sandwich left a lot to be desired. It was a piece of small wheat bread ( like the cheap generic type bread) and about an 1/8 of a cup of tasteless tuna and a piece of wilted lettuce, three sliced pickles on the side and a small bag of plain Lays chips. My 2 year old grandson could eat that in a minute. For $6.00 I would have expected a little more than that. My finances burger was dry. The karaoke guy thought he was a comedian. It was 1:00 in the afternoon, we didn't come to sing or listen to him sing. Ugh... We will DEFINATELY never be back there again. Not even worth a second chance.

On UO vs OSU Civil War Saturday, we visited this place about 30 minutes before the game started. They were the only place for miles around that had the PAC-12 network on TV and thus they were packed. No table seating available and near capacity. They found a couple of extra chairs for my son and I, and found a place off to the side where we could sit and watch the game. The wait staff kept great care of us that afternoon. We ordered lunch and it was really good as well. Super nice people, good food, great service. We will be back. I can only imagine what things are normally like. Thank you!

Won't ever go back here. Maybe if we felt like going somewhere to be ignored. Walked in and sat down and waited almost 15 minutes before anyone even came over and acknowledged us. There were two girls working and neither one of them even greeted us or acknowledged us in any way. I would have gotten up and walked out, but unfortunately we had walked here from our hotel and there wasn't anywhere else within walking distance. So we sat it out. As we were waiting to just be acknowledged, I watched one of the servers deliver drinks to one of the tables of locals 3 times and we still didn't even get even so much as a hello. I guess you have to be a local here to get service. Watched another couple come in and sit down and it was 10 minutes before they got service, but another couple (who must have been locals based on their conversation) came in and sat at the table right next to the first couple and low and behold, they were served almost immediately. When the server finally came and took our order, she stopped to clear off a table before putting our order in, not only that, but she came back and cleared it some more before finally going and putting our order in. No one came back to check on us and we weren't even offered another drink once we had finished our first. We definitely felt ignored and unwelcome. I understand the locals are their bread and butter, but a little attention to the visitors would be nice. Very disappointing experience.

I know a dark secluded place. A place where no one knows your face. A glass of wine a fast embrace. It's called the Lakeside Hideaway... After driving here from Idaho... pause, and let that sink in for a moment... we were absolutely starving, so we stopped at the first place we saw that featured food of any kind. We knew we were close to the ocean, but we simply could not wait. A quick and inexpensive BLT and a cup of clam chowder later, and we were on our way. Damn! Damn!! Damn!!! We were pissed when we saw all the lovely beach places we could have stopped at instead, if only we were more patient. Oh well, the BLT was delicious and the clam chowder was terrifiic, even by a New Englander's standards.

Best Chowder on the PLANET!!. Excellent service and ownership customer service. Do not miss this chowder; I am a serious (25+ year) Professional Taster and Clam Chowder lover and this one takes the cake and is as good, or equal to 'The Green Pier Inn in Northern CA, do not miss it. The french fries a battered (in house) and all seafood and red meat is freshly acquired and very tasty, super Oregon experiences are to be had here, and has with karaoke on Thursday nights 9-1 PM (ish). Nice views on a lake, straight off HWY 101.

Stay away from this place, unless you want to do karaoke. The microwave oven plays a starring role in this kitchen. My prime rib special was day old nuked to to perfection if you like a piece of old shoe leather. The clam chowder tasted great but was lukewarm at best. Everything was served that way. Even my poor little dinner role had been microwaved to mush. We ate half our meal, said nothing and left quickly. Oh, did I forget to mention the giant fly that came out of my plate of food?

great view of the lake, and a great spot for drinks outside on a hot day. food wise? nothing spectacular. the fish and chips? thats some sysco crap your serving. seriously. this is the beach, please serve local fair. the chicken alfredo? was outstanding, and the scampi? was fun, and the steamers were fun. the burger? ordered medium? was charred. we didn't complain, as the salads? were huge. however the bowls? bad. must have dumped my salad on the table about four times. service slow. bartender? thinks she's funny, but shes not. I don't care for commentary from someone who really isn't serving our table. the waitress? she was wonderful. I enjoyed her, and there was another guy who helped her. both of your employee's here? are over the top. just think that your a pretty new establishment, that hasn't found its restaurant footing yet. YOU could be THEE place, if you were to just change a few things, and pay attention to what folks order. charred? isn't medium. thanks

Wow what a waste of $ and time. We stopped w/o much expectation other than a beer and a bite for lunch. Well the beer part was the only successful part. The fish and chips were bad bad. They were actually from frozen and were still cold in the middle!! GROSS!! The coleslaw was soggy over mayo'd cabbage. Don't go!!

Pleased to find this open when not much else in town was. Friendly staff, halibut was great, burger was great served fast and price was decent. Was glad other places we're not open or we would never have driven to this end of town to find this place!

Visiting in Rockaway and decided to give this place a shot. As we walked in, both server and manager were there to greet us, very friendly. The manager turned on the a tv just for us in the "karaoke" area so we could watch the game but still be secluded from the majority of the bar guests, who were watching the game. Fast service, especially for 1 server "Jac Jac" who worked her little butt off. She did an amazing job with the football crowd and stayed calm and collected. The food and astmosphere were great. Will recommend and be back, for sure!

Friday night in a tiny town. I had been up for almost twenty hours, and after talking about going to karaoke at this place and never doing it (there is always a sign outside saying they have karaoke when I drive by), my friends and I decided to take the plunge. Not only was the karaoke amazing (better then any of the places I'd been to in Portland, packed with people and super fun), but the coconut shrimp I got was delicious! The service was great, the drinks were awesome, and I will most certainly be back. Now, onto the karaoke part. You would not expect to have such a great time at a small time karaoke bar, but for the most part, everyone could actually sing. They had hats and blow up guitars you could use as props, and a gigantic library of songs! It was crowded with people of all ages, but not too crowded. All in all it was perfect.

Really disappointing experience. We were mostly ignored, the food took forever, and the quality of the food did not match the price. It felt like a bar that put "restaurant" at the top of the sign to make more money but never took the steps to learn how to run a restaurant. It says "family restaurant on the sign, but when we walked in with two little one they looked at us like we were lost. There were only two servers, so even though there only a few customers they looked harried. They took our order fairly quickly but then, even though there were only 3 other tables with customers in the restaurant, it took almost 40 minutes for our food to come. Our server did not check in with us the entire time we waited. When the food came, it was okay, but it felt very expensive for the quality. After we got our food we never saw our server again. Our empty water glasses sat waiting and we couldn't even get the check until we had been done with our food for almost 15 minutes. To top it off, I set out my credit card for the waitress to take, and after 20 MORE minutes of watching her walk by and help every other table besides us, we gave up and left cash. This might be an okay bar, but don't go in expecting a restaurant experience (even though the sign says it is). It's understaffed and poorly run.

I had some time to spend in Rockaway, so I dropped into 3-4 restaurants before choosing this one. I asked a local shop owner what his suggestions were, but both of his suggested places were closed on a Thursday afternoon. What drew me in was the sign out front that said the daily special started at 4pm and the lakeside setting. I arrived a little before 4. I needed a wall outlet for my laptop, so the waitress pointed out 3-4 tables that were near an outlet. I picked table 16, on the East side overlooking the little lake. The waitress was very nice and helpful. I inquired about the special and she didn't know, but would check on it for me. I mentioned that I was interested in a combo seafood plate. I think she called the owner because she came back and announced that the special of the day was a Captain's Plate. There were 4 Oysters, 4 shrimp, 3 pieces of Cod and some clam strips....with garlic toast and fries for $16.99. The service was great, but I was literally the only one in the restaurant at 4pm on a weekday. I was there for 2 hours, and several other groups came in while I was there. Those folks mostly went to the bar though. I was sitting near the Kareoke booth, but I was way too early for any of that. It looked like they had a nice set-up for that. There is also a sizable outdoor seating area on the lakeside that would have been nice if it was a little warmer. Overall, It was a good experience. The Captain's Plate was generous and it would have been more like $22 in Portland. There were plenty of other items I could have ordered on the menu, but I was happy with what I got. Another thing, I ordered an Arnold Palmer. The waitress made sure I had as much as I wanted and refilled be at least twice for the same price. I'd go there again. A couple of the other places looked pretty sketchy. GC

Best to avoid... Busy Friday night, somewhat slow. Burger smooshed, all juices neatly extracted. As two star indicates I've had better, low point as far as eating on coast for three days. They did say they were having a breakfast special the next morning, we opted out

We were spending a week in Rockaway and had been driving all day. We asked the person at RBR for a good place to eat and she suggested the Hideaway, even though she said she had never been there! Well we did and it was a deal. It was Friday night just before 6 (still happy hour) and we each ended up having 2 draft beers each and two prime rib dinners for just under $40. And the meal was pretty good too. These guys have had this place about 6 months and this is the off season so I hope they make it. The place is kind of a sports bar/restaurant with kareoke on

Exceeded expectations. Pot roast was delicious and fried things were crispy and not overly-greasy. Fresh vegetables. Awesome dancing skeleton and free advice from local law enforcement. Silly hats abound for karaoke. Mints on the way out.
